radiohead: [ new album ] [ new site ]
yes, i do like the new album. having listened to the live cuts for several months now, and reading the band member’s comments about the album’s supposed pop-ness, i was growing concerned that the experimental styles of kid a and amnesiac were going to blow away as they surged for another ok computer. of course, i suffered the same anxiety listening to pre-release versions of amnesiac only to find, what would become, one of my favorite tracks, “like spinning plates”, completely overhauled into an very nice electronic tangle. i will concede that the album has undercurrents of mainstream pop, but it’s pinned under the usual layers of sound. should be interesting what sort of public response the title, “hail to the thief” will get if this one climbs the charts.
